We’re delighted to announce that Gig Buddies Sydney are taking the first steps towards becoming a truly “user led” project.
Around this time last year a number of our staff went to Brighton, where we were privy to a ‘Storm and Thunder’ meeting, a monthly coming together by “a group of people with learning disabilities who meet to advise and lead Stay Up Late."
As per their mission statement: “One of the things we want to make sure of as a charity is that we have as much input from the people we’re trying to serve, so we decided to set up an advisory group to oversee the Gig Buddies project and the overall work of the charity.”

Wanting to replicate their model, we feel having a committee that reflects the thoughts of our participants will better enable us to achieve our goals.
While it has taken some time to establish, we now have a number of willing gig buddies who will meet once a month, starting in October.
Our first port of call will be to think of a committee name and mission statement. In due course we will provide profiles and contact details for all members, and should our service users want to raise a question, make suggestions about future events, or share ideas this will be the go-to platform.
