We’re back from our first ever Gig Buddies Sydney international gig.
Last week we took Gig Buddies across the Tasman, presenting at the ASID (the Australiasian Society for Intellectual Disability) 2016 No more excuses, Looking beyond “because” conference in Wellington.
Meeting industry insiders and disability advocates from both sides of the ditch, Carol and I informed those in attendance about the project and our approach to tackling social isolation.
During our time in Wellington we spoke about how we “enable social inclusion through a befriending scheme.” Detailing the impact of isolation and the measures taken to address the affects, we provided a brief on where we’ve come as an initiative – from our beginnings with the Gig Buddies team in the UK up until our signatory charity partnership with Cronulla Sharks. We also slept through an earthquake!
In other news, with the Sydney Festival less than two months away we’re excited to announce that we’ll be rocking to the sounds of Regurgitator at Hyde Park’s Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent on January 17th.
We’ve a number of gig buddies and volunteers joining us on the night, and we’re throwing the invites open. If you would like to come along load up the Festival website for ticket information.
