It’s been a bumper 2016 at Gig Buddies Sydney.
During the year we took the following measures to deliver on our objectives: to promote social inclusion and enable people with learning disabilities to become an active part of Sydney’s live music and events scene.
But we’ve still got work to do….
We have13 potential gig buddies waiting to be paired at the start of 2017, and to facilitate this we’re aiming to hold volunteer training sessions in January and February.
As for other measures, in line with our agreement with the Cronulla Sharks, Gig Buddies Sydney will be promoted via their social media channels in the week leading up to each game we attend, as well as on the big screen during match day. This extra publicity, along with further social events, planned presentations at universities and volunteer-focussed advertising campaigns will go someway to helping us pair up more gig buddies.
We’re also excited to call on the help of the Soul Fly Band – our service user group. Led by five gig buddies, the group catch up monthly and will help Gig Buddies Sydney going forward.
Finally, we would like to take this moment to wish all our gig buddies, volunteers, family members, advocates and everyone else in between a happy festive season. We’ll be taking a break over the Christmas period, logging off this forthcoming Friday (23/12). We’ll be back online on Tuesday January 3rd and the blog will return the following week on Monday the 9th.
