Calling all creatives

Updated: Nov 6, 2023

We’re calling on our community to come up with a Gig Buddies’ slogan.

We’re after someone to come up with some words that sum up who we are and what we do. We’ve been operating for nearly nine years now and - based on received feedback - we feel we’re missing out.

For the person who comes up with the winning idea, they will take home a $50 gift voucher.

Help is at hand

For those not knowing where to start, slogans are usually placed under a brand name or logo. They’re typically short in length, with most slogans containing a maximum of 6 to 8 words.

We want our slogan to be short enough that it’s memorable and easy for people to repeat, but long enough that it’s unique and catchy as well.

Some tips for writing slogans

Some famous slogan examples include Nike’s "Just Do It", Subway’s "Eat Fresh" and Weetbix’s "Aussie kids are Weetbix kids".

When coming up with a slogan, think about words that relate to Gig Buddies. These might describe what we do, who we support or why we operate.

Perhaps start by brainstorming a list of possible words and go from there.....

Once you have come up with your idea, share it via our website by clicking here.

We appreciate this is not an easy ask, so our slogan competition closes on Sunday 7 January 2024. We’ll then announce a winner in the new year.

And talking of Gig Buddies’ catch ups, we facilitated two in the last week.

We caught up with buddies in Ultimo and Waitara for art installations and live music, while yesterday’s planned outing in Windsor was washed out due to the downpour.

Kia ora!

And finally, we have some exciting news to share from across the Tasman.

“New Zealand disability service provider Spectrum Care recently launched their own Gig Buddies project in Auckland, which is being operated in collaboration with Student Volunteer Army.

After an extended gestation process, the project went live last week, with Project Lead Hans Matig-a applying the finishing touches to their website.

Whilst fairly similar to the Australian projects, the Auckland project will have a big focus on live events, with a production team in training (including a Gig Buddies DJ crew made up of a talented bunch of young people with a disability), ready to start running events great and small. They have secured informal partnerships with Live Nation (who manage Auckland’s biggest venue and promote many national tours) and Auckland Council’s events team, who have offered for them to undertake a launch event early next year as part of the Music in Parks series, as well as curating future events under their umbrella.

Naturally, this means that there is a focus on unearthing and supporting talented musicians and DJs with a disability alongside their core Gig Buddies matching process.

It's exciting times for this brand-new project, the first of its kind in New Zealand, so stay tuned for updates."

Congratulations to all involved. We look forward to hearing more from our friends from New Zealand.
