Goals for 2024

2024 is eight days old already.

To those who may have given thought to (and possibly broken) their new year’s resolution: we need more volunteers.

We’re looking for people who want to have fun, make new friends and try new things.

We’re appealing to those who want to expand their social circle, give back, develop skills or boost their own confidence.

If you (or someone you know) fits the bill, all we require is a commitment to catch up with a buddy once a month.

As a reminder, we tackle social isolation for adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism. We match adults with disability with volunteers - both of whom share a mutual interest, while age, gender and location preferences are also taken into consideration.

And we emphasise that the volunteer benefits just as much as the buddy!

If your new year’s resolution is to meet new people and expand your social circle, join the team and volunteer with Gig Buddies.

Out and about

Sydney Festival is up and running and thanks to the generosity of event organisers, we’ve got a number of giveaways to share.

We initially posted about this on our Facebook and Instagram pages in December. As such, a number of gigs have now sold out. However, limited tickets are still available for the following:

To reserve your place, load up the links above. Please note, Gig Buddies’ staff will NOT be in attendance at these events.

The Seven wonders….

On the subject of socials, we’re facilitating SEVEN events this month!

We’re inviting buddies to join us for mini golf, yoga, markets, a curry night, and a picnic by the beach. Our over 40 catch ups return, while we’re also off to watch Sydney FC in the women's A League.

We’re down to the final few tickets for some, while our breakfast catch up in Parramatta is now sold out.

To join us in Pittwater, The Rocks, Wyong, Windsor, Brighton-Le-Sands, Newtown and Leichhardt, load up the links below:

And if you have any questions about our forthcoming events, get in touch: we can be reached via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text or phone call on 0411 252 228.

Each and every month we invite buddies to connect with us for our online chats.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Three is the magic number

It’s been five weeks since our last update - and in that time we’ve been busy on the pairing front.

To conclude 2023 we confirmed another three matches: Harry and Jordan (top, L - R), Sophie and Penny (left, L - R), and Mel and Veronica (right, L - R).

We look forward to catching up with you all in 2024.

Prepped and ready to go

Additionally, we’ve prepped and readied one more volunteer since you last heard from us.

Thank you for joining us on Zoom last month, June.

December done right

And we concluded 2023 with two socials, catching up with buddies in Petersham and Double Bay for a community festival and pub trivia.

It was a great way to wrap up the year - thank you to everyone who joined us. To see more snaps from our final 2023 outings, click here.

Creatives called

Our slogan completion is now closed.

With so many exceptional entries, we’re now going to take some time to make a decision and announce the winner.

We’ve been overwhelmed with the response, thank to everyone who took the time to submit an entry.

Updated plan?

We’ve a friendly reminder for our buddies that have NDIS plans’.

If you have an unscheduled plan review or the dates/details of your plan change for any reason, it’s very important you let us know.

Any changes to an NDIS participant's plan dates will automatically make your Gig Buddies' service agreement void.

We need to be informed of any date changes so we can update your service agreement and ensure you’re still covered by our public liability insurance when out with your volunteer.

If there have been any changes to your plan or if you’re unsure about your current service agreement, please contact Chelsea, our NDIS Coordinator, either via email: chelsea@assistcom.org or phone: 0412 145 819 or 02 9419 6951 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am - 5pm).

Eye, eye!

And lastly, be sure to check our Facebook and Instagram accounts on Friday (12/1) to see what we’re doing in February.
