Happy birthday to us!

We’re in awe of those of you who boarded the ferry to Cockatoo Island on Thursday (20/5) to celebrate our belated birthday.

131 of you partied with us, making it the biggest ever Gig Buddies social.

Having gone 462 days since our last major group gathering (our fifth birthday in Surry Hills, remember that?), it was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces.

We initially advertised our birthday plans on Monday 3 May. To celebrate with over 130 of you, 17 days later, is testament to the Gig Buddies community. We’ve got something good going here - thank you to everyone helped us blow out the candles on our cake.

We took so many snaps we had to create two galleries. To see all photos from our birthday party on Cockatoo Island, click here.

Radio ga ga

Talking of taking to the microphone, our very own NDIS Coordinator, Chelsea, spoke with Hope FM last week - informing listeners all about who we are and what we do.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week begins this Thursday (27/5).

Taken from their website, National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The goal of the reconciliation movement is for a just, equitable and reconciled country - and Reconciliation Australia have tasked people to “speak up and ask the hard questions, and take action during and beyond National Reconciliation Week.

To achieve their goals they’ve compiled 20 actions for reconciliation. Check out how they want to “make reconciliation more than a word, and to move from safe to brave on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples” by clicking here.

Winner, winner

Our ‘refer a Coastie Gig Buddy’ competition enters its third week.

As a reminder, if you know someone who would be a suitable fit for Gig Buddies Central Coast, we’re offering you the chance to win a cash prize.

For every referral made, whether it's a buddy or volunteer, you’ll go in the draw to win one of three prizes.

We’ll be giving away $100 cash to the person who is drawn first out the hat, with $50 going to the runner up and we’ll reward the third person with $25.

We’re looking for both volunteers and for adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism. They must reside within the Central Coast and all referrals must submit an online application. Buddies can sign up by clicking here while volunteers can load up the following link.

If you have any questions or would like more information about our referral competition, send us an email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org, get in touch on Facebook Messenger or contact us via text or on the phone on 0422 061 990.
