Spring into action

Writer: Gig Buddies SydneyGig Buddies Sydney

Looking for something to do this September? We may be able to help.

To kick off the spring season, we offer the following:

On Thursday 8 September, we invite you to join us for a night of stand-up comedy at the Kirribilli Club. One week later (Tuesday 13/9) we head to Redfern to check out Bus Stop Films’ ‘Inclusively Curated’ movie night.

Then, on Saturday 17th we’re attending two live music events: join us either on the Central Coast for their free concert, featuring Dan Sultan and other acts, or head west and hit up Workers Blacktown for an 80s offering.

For more information, including how to reserve your spot, load up the event links above.

Are you looking to volunteer?

We need volunteers! Click on the image above for current Sydney roles and the graphic below for opportunities on the Central Coast.

If you have any questions or would like more information, contact us via Facebook or email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org

Go west

A little later in the month we head to Dooleys Lidcombe for our Western Sydney hub launch.

Taking place on Thursday 25 August, this is your chance to meet the Gig Buddies team and to find more about who we are and what we do.

We’ll be providing nibbles, while attendees will have the opportunity to also snap up some exclusive Gig Buddies merchandise. Whether you’re paired up, an unmatched buddy or volunteer, or an interested parent or support worker - we want to see and hear from you.

To find out more about our Western Sydney hub launch, and to book your place, load up the following link.

Please note, this Wednesday’s trip to Zetland for drag bingo has now sold out.

If you have any questions about our forthcoming events, get in touch: we can be reached via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text or phone call on 0411 252 228.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Elvis has left the building!

On the subject of our socials, while Saturday’s gathering at Hornsby RSL didn’t quite go to plan, it was great to catch up with so many buddies on the north shore.

Norm Bakker, our Elvis impersonator for the night, was ill - meaning we missed out on live music. Nonetheless, thank you to everyone who stopped by for food and drinks.

We look forward to bringing our Sydney and Central Coast communities together for future gatherings.

Two more

We’re delighted to reveal two new pairings.

Say hello to Nicole and Yasmin (left, L - R) and Matt and Chris (right, L - R). Welcome to the family - we look forward to hearing about your forthcoming adventures.

Trained and ready to go

And on the subject of welcomes, we had the pleasure of prepping three new volunteers last week.

Thanks to Conroy (top left), Matt (right) and Beth (bottom left) for joining us on Zoom.

COVID-19 Vaccinations update

The NSW Chief Health Officer has extended the current exemption that allows workers (and volunteers) who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to continue to work if they have been assessed as being essential to the operation of the service.

All workers (and volunteers) who have not yet received their booster must also take reasonable steps to get the booster as soon as practical. The exemption has been extended to September 6 2022.

If you haven’t done this yet, it’s important that you send the latest copy of your vaccination certificate to Gig Buddies ASAP. The certificate must show the dates on which you have received all THREE doses of the COVID vaccine.

Similarly, for those who have been granted an exemption from a medical professional, we require a copy of any relevant documentation.

You can access your vaccination certificate through your Medicare or MyGov account. Please send this certificate to info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text/WhatsApp it to 0411 252 228.
